Chapter 1. Introduction to the Method

IDEFO is the most useful method of communication in my professional bag of tricks. This is a more radical statement than it may seem at first, considering that I count various programming languages (FORTRAN, Ada, and assembly code, for example), numerous software design methods (Yourdon, Parnas, and so on), multiple spreadsheet applications (such as Lotus and Excel), and the English language itself as other methods in this “bag.” How can this be? It would seem that the English language would be the most valuable to me—it is, after all, my native language—but IDEFO plays a unique role in my ability to communicate with people in my line of work.
