Preface

The third SAFEDB-methodology component is concerned with addressing a key aspect of planning civil engineering projects, which is managing uncertainty in future project events and outcomes. To that end, the methodology component utilizes the axiomatic graphical evaluation and review technique (GERT) technique. It deals with uncertain activity outcomes probabilistically by assigning probability values to schedule branching and looping scenarios and adjusting original activities accordingly, something that the commonly used critical path method (CPM) and program evaluation and review technique (PERT) do not do.
