Summary

Humility has long been regarded as consisting of moderation, prudence and self-knowledge. In recent centuries, it acquired negative connotations of being connected to weakness, servility and naivety. Modern research has succeeded in shining a brighter light on the term by focusing on its four core elements. Humility is not seen as a leadership style, but as a fundamental virtue that underlies any leadership behavior.
