069 Highlighting
A technique for focusing attention on an area of text or image.
• Highlighting focuses attention by varying elements (e.g., capitalization) or adding elements (e.g., color).
• Highlight no more than 10 percent of a visible display. When everything is highlighted, nothing is highlighted.
• Use bold to highlight titles, labels, and short word sequences. Use italics and uppercase text for more subtle highlighting. Use underlining sparingly, if at all.
• Use color to highlight long word sequences. Ensure high contrast when using color to highlight.
