Executive Sponsor Is Key

The sponsor, in Project Management Institute (PMI) terminology, or the executive, in PRINCE2 terminology, is the person responsible for the project business case and ultimate delivery of the project benefits.

The sponsor has a strategic role in the project. They report upward to the company board on project progress and status and provide leadership to the project team. Their key functions are to provide resources, set the objectives and vision, appoint project board members and the project manager, and work with the team to overcome the large issues like budget and scope changes.
