Most of us spend a lot of our time in organizations. They exist because, to achieve anything of any size and complexity, many people need to work together. Over time, organizations, including corporations, have become bigger and more complex, to achieve bigger and more complex impacts on the world.
The purposes of organizations fall into broad categories. The purpose of a government may be to enable the people of a nation to live in safety and happiness. A charity’s purpose may be the advancement of animal welfare, and a corporation’s purpose is probably the maximization of shareholder value.
