A 70–200mm f/2.8 or f/4 Zoom Lens

This is my #1 go-to lens for natural light portraits, and whether you choose the f/2.8 version or the f/4 version, they are both sharp, flattering lenses (pretty much every lens manufacturer’s 70–200mm is a very solid lens—Sony, Nikon, Canon, Sigma, Tamron). This lens does three great things: (1) It makes people look awesome! When you shoot at its longer focal lengths—for me, I like anywhere from 120mm to 200mm—the lens compression creates a very flattering look for faces.
