Why Study Leadership?

Where human resources (HR) and organizational behavior (OB) focus on helping employees perform at their best, the study of leadership is focused on improving the skills of individual leaders in order to maximize their effectiveness. The idea of what makes a person a leader is almost continuously debated. Television and other media deluge us with their stereotypes of how leaders are supposed to act. We see elected politicians who are both hailed as world leaders and derided as incompetent for the same actions. It is commonly agreed, though, that the primary role of leaders is to get results.
