Because a speech places the speaker at risk, if only in front of the audience, then it stands to reason the speaker should get some personal payback. At the very least, the speaker’s personal objectives should be considered when choosing a speech. Some might say that a paycheck should suffice, but because speeches take considerably more than 9-to-5 preparation and worry, more speaker consideration seems appropriate. So what should be considered? First, influence. The speaker might consider personal visibility created by the speech. A pivotal speech in the industry may set the speaker up as an expert in the field, thus making herself and the business respected and valued in a particular community or sphere of influence.
