At first, Adam’s conversation with Duncan had seemed to come to an awkward end—it was just another in all the conversations that were tumbling around in his head. But somehow, this last one with Duncan seemed to stick. Maybe I do need to ease up, Adam thought.
From his perch at the kitchen snack bar, Adam caught himself glancing up from his laptop screen to stare numbly out the kitchen window to the spot where Duncan was working. Adam could tell the pace of work was slowing—the demolition work was done, a drainage pipe had been dug into the backyard, and the new overhang at the back of the house was nearly finished.
