Adam was so immersed in his own thoughts that he had walked several hundred feet down the path before he realized he was well past his normal stop at the boulder. He kicked some stones down the path ahead of him in annoyance at his absentmindedness, then he spun around to walk back up the path. He only went a few feet before the realization hit him.
