How to Splay the Legs

There will be times when you need to get really low, or you’re on the rocks of a stream, or need to have a large foreground element in front of you (maybe you’re shooting with an ultra-wide-angle lens). In those situations, to get really low, you’ll need to splay your tripod’s legs out wide. Each tripod is a bit different in how it does this, but the basic idea is that when you normally extend your tripod’s legs and pull them out horizontally, they snap into place, kind of at a 45° angle.
