Remember my story about the CFO? Although I do not believe I squandered corporate resources prior to his criticism, I certainly have been much more frugal since becoming aware of his perceptions. Every nod to a new idea consumes capacity. And how much capacity should be devoted to communications in an organization? There is no one right answer. Suffice it to say that the communications function is overhead, along with finance, human resources, information technology, and many other services.
