We have come a long way in our exploration of leadership and what great leaders do. If I may summarize in a sentence what great leaders do, I’d say that they create value, as a leader is known by the unique value he creates. This is the key difference between real leaders and sit-tight positional leaders. Leaders create value for their constituents, value that would not have been created without their leadership. They look for opportunities to add value to their organizations and their people. Therefore, to measure a leader’s effectiveness, look for the unique value that he is creating for his people and the organization he serves and not in the position he occupies or how long he has been in that position. ...
