Caring for the Planet: Environmental Issues
In 1985, Michael Stusser founded Osmosis, a Japanese bath and day spa in beautiful Sonoma County, California. In 2006, driven by a desire to positively affect people, planet, and community, Stusser invited a team of Presidio School of Management students to the spa to conduct a sustainability assessment. During the engagement, the team recommended several sustainability-related changes, including installing solar collectors and on-demand water heaters to cut electricity usage; building a small pond and filling it with filters and rich, impurity-removing plants to save water; and installing a dishwasher to reduce paper waste.
