Shift 8: Job Design to Job Redesign

The modern idea of the job is like a grain of sand on a beach in terms of its historic longevity.

During our lifetime, most of us spends about 40 years in the workforce, unless we’re fortunate enough to win lotto or reap a sizable inheritance. During employment, we devote approximately half our waking hours during the work week on the job. Sadly, most people see this enormous chunk of time as a struggle, or at least, a bore, looking forward to the weekend. For it is on the weekend that these people can then indulge in worthwhile pursuits. That’s a big slab of potentially wasted time! (Baker 2021)1
