The central question for HR is: How can the organization design the workplace to inspire the best from its employees?

Organizations are increasingly investing in the employee experience—and for good reason. A positive employee experience improves the customer experience, supports attraction and retention, increases trust in the firm and drives productivity. (Mercer 2019)1

In the previous chapter, I discussed the concept of the employee lifecycle. The employee lifecycle consists of four phases an employee goes through when employed in the one organization. Within each phase there are several HR practices. The way each practice is managed is based on certain beliefs. These principles drive HR behavior.
