The concept of a four-day workweek has been around since the Second World War ended, once people’s work returned to a normal basis. However, organized labor moved away from a focus on the length of the workweek to aim instead at other work conditions, particularly wages and benefits, health and safety conditions, and fair treatment of workers. And while organized labor has been greatly marginalized in the United States over this past half-century, no other group has taken the workweek issue as a target to pursue.
