IN THE INTRODUCTION, I OBSERVED THAT INFLUENCING POWER IS LIKE A BAT-tery. The more voltage a battery has, the more electrical power it can deliver, and the greater its potential to do work. Likewise, the more power you have, the greater your capacity to lead or influence others. Each of us has five personal sources of power—knowledge, expressiveness, history, attraction, and character—and five organizational sources—role, resources, information, network, and reputation.
