6 Funding
It is hard to place this chapter about funding after production because of course it will go side by side. For new filmmakers you are often shooting a few scenes to make a short 10-minute pitch reel possibly before you have raised any funding. You will probably be looking to fundraise after you’ve shot a few scenes, so that you can make a trailer for your grant applications and pitching purposes or even crowdfunding (Kickstarter, etc.) to help raise money.
Unless you’re a seasoned filmmaker and have been able to raise money from a treatment alone, you will probably be raising money as you go along. Perhaps you’ve raised some funds before you go into production, but this is very difficult for first-time filmmakers.
