THE IMPORTANCE OF CASTING DECISIONS

All directors understand that casting is one of the most important and difficult decisions they will make regarding the production. The greater the competition for each role, the more difficult the director’s decision. Casting decisions are extremely subjective. While some actors may simply be “wrong” for a given role, many actors are viable possibilities. In the end, the director must make essentially cold decisions in choosing a cast. In making these decisions, the director acknowledges that in casting a given actor, the possibilities other actors may have brought to the role are eliminated.
