Don’t Use Your Pop-Up Flash as a Trigger
If your camera has a built-in pop-up flash, it usually can be configured so it doesn’t actually light your subject, but instead, sends out a dim pulse of light that gets picked up by your big off-camera flash, firing it wirelessly. That sounds great, and it would be if it worked consistently, but sadly, it does not. It works about as well as the motion-activated water faucets in airport restrooms, meaning it’s totally hit or miss.
