VINCENZO BELLINI (1801–1835)

“Casta Diva” (“Pure Goddess”) has become known as the quintessential bel canto piece, yet too few classical music lovers are familiar with the opera from which this prayer for peace was born. Vincenzo Bellini’s two-act tragedy Norma was his eighth opera and sixth collaboration with Italian librettist Felice Romani.
