The Trombone

A MOST FORTUNATE NAME CHANGE

Originally known as a sackbut, the trombone emerged during the mid-15th century and is thought to have evolved from the Renaissance slide trumpet. Although it has been made in many sizes over the years, from piccolo to bass, it is one of the few instruments whose original shape has not changed.
