39 Be Accountable

Some managers seem to subscribe to the philosophy, “It doesn’t matter if you win or lose, it’s how you place the blame.” These managers have fallen prey to the fourth fatal flaw—lack of accountability. Leaders who do not assume complete responsibility for the performance of a work group are bound to fail.

The accountable leader, on the other hand, identifies so strongly with the group that the success of the work group equals personal success.
