Toronto, Toschmonto: Time for a Festival Plan “B”

Once you have finished your film (or at least, one version of your film), you will most likely want to start submitting it to the big A-list film festivals (Cannes, Berlin, Toronto, Telluride, Venice, Sundance) because, well, isn’t that what you’re supposed to do? For many films that finish post-production in the spring or early summer, the obvious place to start would be to apply to the venerated Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) which takes place every September. You pay the entry fee to Toronto and the other big fall festivals, you sit back and wait, and then, if you’re lucky, you get a rejection letter.
