During the summer we wrote this book, an extraordinary thing happened in the game of professional baseball, a story brought to our attention by more than one friend. A former top pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals named Rick Ankiel returned to his team after several years in the minor leagues. That in itself is not so extraordinary.
