The Importance of the Checkout
The importance of the preshooting equipment checkout cannot be overemphasized. This could easily be the most important thing that the Camera Assistant does on the job. A complete and thorough checkout can make the difference between an easy job and a nightmare.
It would be a rare occurrence, indeed, for a Camera Assistant to be hired and not allowed to have a checkout period, usually a single day for commercials or music videos, three days for a TV movie (“M.O.W.”), and a week or two (or more) for a feature film.
