Those pesky polygamists made almost as many headlines and cartoons this year as they did underage marriages and babies! A polygamist sect of the Fundamentalist Mormon Church caught the nation’s attention this year when Texas authorities raided their compound in Eldorado; they seized 400 children, some of whom were set to marry. The charges fizzled out pretty quickly, and the children were returned to their parents, but the cartoons just kept rolling in.
