Top Deep-Sky Objects
As noted in chapter 5, the objects in these tables are listed in order of the best date to image them; dates within a couple of months on either side are usually just fine. I selected these deep-sky objects based on my assessment of their intrinsic photogenic qualities, ease of astrophotography, and astronomical interest. Here’s how to use the information in Tables 1 and 2:
- Number (No.): The object’s number. Also shown on the labeled planisphere wheels in Figure 5.2 and Appendix B for the northern hemisphere.
- Astronomical ID: The prevalent astronomical designation for each object; some have more than one. An ID that begins with the letter M is from the Messier Catalogue; Barnard from the Barnard Catalogue; ...
