I am an optimist and believe in the mantras of “just do it” and “yes, we can.” I also am committed to the philosophy of “Ubuntu”—meaning “humanity toward others,” or interpreted in another way “we are people because of other people”—these mantras and the Ubuntu philosophy guide me in my practice of leadership.
As I stated at the beginning of this book, my focus in writing this book was not to teach CEOs to do their jobs but rather to better inform their practice. CEOs, I fundamentally believe that the softer elements in our organizational systems that I write about are not working and this deficit lies at your feet—it is your chief responsibility.
