The Anatomy of Persuasion as a Management Tool

When experienced managers need the best problem-solving ideas their people can deliver, they generally seek ideas that are logical, innovative, soundly researched, and, above all, ideas that call for specific action. Such results require disciplined thinking from each member of the group. Each person must think and communicate using logic and language that the others can understand. Liken this management process to conducting an orchestra. Each player must be able to perform competently alone. The conductor, having set the objective by selecting the music, leads the members in concert to make the whole greater than the sum of its parts. Would that it were so with all management undertakings.
