Arthur Sanderson got a call at 5:30 a.m. that woke both he and his wife in their Santa Monica home. The call was from an administrative assistant in the East Coast office.

“Sorry about the time zone differences, but I’m about to send out the mail over here and just want to know if you’re sure about this bid.”

Arthur hung up, looked at the clock, and grumbled, “Minimum wage worker, too.”
