In the previous chapter I set out the conditions for being a witness and a victim of contemporary terrorism in places both near and far from terrorism’s ‘flashpoint’. It may be that these four coordinates – witnesses and victims, simulations and images of violence, distance, and cities – go some way to explaining the targets that terrorists choose, the goals of their political message, and what it means to live and work in the city in a time of terror.
