The Evolution and Unique Contribution of the Modern Japanese Steel Industry
The Japanese steel industry does not make the distinction between an integrated mill and a minimill; but it has adopted and utilizes the technologies of both the integrated mill and the minimill. As discussed in previous chapters, these technologies are:
- the basic oxygen furnace (BOF),
- the electric arc furnace (EAF) and
- continuous casting, a procedure common to both technologies.
