Two Devices for Simplifying Cable Tracing |

Cable tracing can be a frustrating and time-consuming task. This article describes two inexpensive testing devices used by other industries that can make this job much easier and faster. The first device comprises two Progressive Electronics, Inc. (PEI) products: the Tracer®, model 77A; and the Inductive Amplifier®, model 200A. Together, these two units can be used to identify one particular pair of wires in a multi-conductor cable. The second testing device, the Tic Tracer®, manufactured by TIF Instruments, can be used to indicate the presence of voltage in on-line AC electrical equipment or cable.
