So, here we are.

We've covered a great deal about hiring in the last eight chapters, and we're finally ready to talk in depth about the concept behind the title of this book: Talent Makers.

Before you even picked up this book, we guess you knew that hiring was not working the way you wanted it to in your organization. You probably may have suspected that it needed to play a more important role—but how?

In these chapters we've given you a framework for measuring employee value, known as Employee Lifetime Value (ELTV). We've equipped you with a way to assess where you are in the hiring maturity curve, and we looked in depth at the four strategic competencies that must be improved to make progress along that curve.

If you put the book down now, we believe you would be armed with an entire system for being able to hire amazing talent at will. But we're not ending the book here, because to tell you the truth, having an entire system will not make any difference in your organization.

What will make the difference is when you apply that system, when you become the catalyst for change in your organization.

In short, when you become a Talent Maker.

In this book, we have painted a picture of what great hiring looks like, with examples from our own experience and also the many organizations we've worked with. We also have described in some detail what needs to change, from the earliest stages when a role is opened, through posting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding. ...
