The Systems Engineering Vee Model

Figure 4.1 shows the well-known systems engineering Vee model. The Vee Model captures all the important aspects of systems engineering. For example,

  • It shows that the requirements process starts at the top of the system hierarchy with stakeholder needs. See discussion above for a description of stakeholder needs. Remember the concept of hierarchy from Chapter 2.
  • It shows that requirements are flowed down through the system hierarchy. See Chapter 2 for a discussion of the concept of system hierarchy. The Waterfall model represents the flow-down of requirements through the system hierarchy.
