The current generation of wireless cellular networks has relied on a digital network infrastructure to deliver traditional voice and data services. This provides the signaling and switching between the endpoints and various functional elements in the network. In the continued evolution path, wireless standards are focused on building the next-generation all-IP network infrastructure.
