As a young engineer, I was working in the quality organization. My department was responsible for doing a functional audit of our products after they came out of manufacturing. After a few years, I grew to become the lead of the group. I knew the products, the tests, and the audit process. So, when the department manager moved on, I got promoted to manage the department. I felt I had grown into the role and thought things were going well.
