This book was commissioned by Sharla Plant in 2013 to help build up a body of work on the subject of conservation for RIBA publications. The number of CPD courses and the proliferation of accreditation schemes is now expanding the number of building professionals who consider conservation a key skill. It is very evident that the majority of architects have been encouraged to shun the label of ‘conservationist’ despite often developing a deep affection for and understanding of architectural history.
