Relational database systems make up the majority of information systems (IS) applications and have become the preferred method of data storage for various applications, including e-commerce, decision support systems (DSS), online transaction processing (OLTP), and management information systems (MIS). An unavailable database generally has a negative impact on business revenue—this problem can be alleviated by having the database highly available in a clustered environment.
