Orchid
As one of the Four Gentlemen (shown here), the orchid is a popular, essential subject in sumi-e painting. Here we’ll divide the subject into elements before combining them all to complete a painting of an orchid.
Leaves
The painting project shown here shows you how to paint bamboo leaves by holding the brush upright, pressing down in the center and then slowly lifting to a point. Orchid leaves are painted in the same way, only with a little curve.
