The other day I couldn’t help myself eavesdropping on a 60ish-year-old guy with a coiffed gray mane, wearing jean overalls with one strap stylishly drooping off his shoulder, and sporting unlaced skater sneakers. He was buying Viagra at the pharmacy.
Actually, it wasn’t tough listening in since he proudly bellowed his Viagra order to the pharmacist and then looked around, smirking, as he surveyed the room for a hopefully adoring and jealous audience.
He then kind of dance-stepped out, squeezed himself into his bright red Mini Cooper and zoomed away noisily. It was a laughably bizarre moment.
What have we become? A nation obsessed, eager to upsell ourselves? A need to create an image of ourselves as how we want others ...
