High-Frequency Vibration SHM with PWAS Modal Sensors – the Electromechanical Impedance Method
This chapter will present the use of PWAS transducers as high-frequency modal sensors. The use of PWAS transducers as high-frequency modal sensors has been made possible by the electromechanical (E/M) impedance method, which couples the mechanical impedance of the structural substrate with the electrical impedance measured at the PWAS transducer terminals. In this way, the mechanical resonance spectrum of the structure is reflected in a virtually identical spectrum of peaks and valleys in the real part of the E/M impedance measured at the PWAS terminals.
