Chapter 20. VASA
Have you ever wanted to create a datastore for a specific I/O profile or on a device with a specific RAID type? To do that in the past, you had to ask the storage administrator to either tell you the capabilities of a device or create one with the required capabilities. Those days are long gone, now that VMware has defined APIs that enable storage arrays to expose their capabilities to vCenter Server (VC) and, in turn, to the ESXi hosts. This set of APIs is referred to as vStorage APIs for Storage Awareness (VASA).
