Genomics and Human Augmentation
Genomics and Gene Editing With CRISPR
For many years, scientists have been trying to map the DNA and genetic structure of humanity, known as the human genome. Finally, in 2022, they completed this project and identified over 100 new genes as well as millions of gene variations.1 Genomics is the multidisciplinary field that focuses on genomes for various organisms, including humans, as well on techniques for manipulating these genes. Jennifer Doudna and Emmanuelle Charpentier received the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their work in discovering Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR), a very efficient method of editing genes.
