Robots are programmable machines. Some surgery robots, as an example, perform the specific tasks they have been programmed to perform and do not learn on the job. When it comes to automation, it is important to realize that these machines can take a number of different forms and not just a human shape. In fact, it is humbling for some workers on assembly lines when they realize they have been replaced by what amounts to an automated arm that is ideal for performing repetitive tasks. Similarly, while some robots have artificial intelligence and even a subset of those are capable of deep learning, many do not.
