Many data analysts consider crosstabulations, which display the joint distribution of two or more categorical variables, to be part of the core of data analysis. In this chapter, we provide examples and advice on how best to construct and interpret crosstabulations.
After crosstabulations have been performed, you’ll want to use the chi-square test of independence to see whether a statistically significant relationship exists between two categorical variables. If a statistically significant relationship exists, you’ll then want to use the compare column proportions test to determine which groups differ from each other.
