Introduction

In June 2020, the global COVID-19 pandemic had caused half-a-million deaths, closed borders, suspended large parts of the global economy, and restricted the movements of most people worldwide. Professional sports, which had suspended most activities when the disease spiraled out of control in March, began to find ways to overcome challenges and restart operations.
